What started as a temporary wall gallery geared towards Christmas has now continued through New Years and Valentine’s.
As I mentioned back in December, this wall of our living room remained empty for nearly an entire year after moving in because I couldn’t decide on exactly what I wanted to do. Ultimately I’d love to go with a long white ledge, filled with overlapping mounted prints. But I just haven’t gotten around to picking and choosing the right photos for it. Until then, I may just keep converting this arrangement of white canvases over to the next holiday. (Am I crazy if I decorate for St. Patty’s Day?)
First up after Christmas was New Years. Since we purchased our tree a few days after Thanksgiving, it was time to take it down the day after Christmas. So along with the tree, we took down all the Christmas decorations as well.
I had seen a tutorial on the Studio Calico blog for six-pointed stars and immediately fell in love. New Years decorations were the perfect solution to a cure my post-Christmas slump.
I primarily used kraft paper so that the stars would be more visible on the white canvas, but also included a few white ones. The 2015 stamp was from the Studio Calico’s December kit and the gold stars were created with a silkscreen from their October kit.
To attach them, I threaded through each star with basic white sewing string and taped the ends to the sides of the canvas.
The small frame switched from a red snowflake patterned paper to a stamped piece of paper saying ‘cheers’.
I unintentionally left the display up through much of January, still not getting around to my “real” plan for the wall. But then I figured, I may as well decorate for Valentine’s Day next!
After a few internet searches for an interesting way to make a heart, I ended up cutting out basic hearts freehand instead. Again using kraft paper, along with white, and a bit of pink and green. I again used various stamps I had on hand to allow the white hearts to pop out more.
To attach them, I taped various lengths of string to the back of each heart and taped the other end to the top of the canvas.
I replaced the ‘cheers’ frame with an ‘xoxo’, created with this stamp set and some watercolors.
And this ‘sweet heart’ transparent card is from the Heidi Swapp Overlay Value kit. I punched holes on the top and bottom and threaded a thin ribbon through, tying a knot on the backside.
Simple and done.
